Zhao Yunlan has had the worst week. Shen Wei really just wants to help.

When he returns to the SID from capturing Zhu Jiu, Zhao Yunlan learns that the Sky Pillar has exploded. He is obviously worried at what this potentially-escaped criminal is going to do next.

Zhao Yunlan looked up from his screen, a little startled. That was Li Huiliang's voice, and Zhang Shi was usually careful to call him 'Chief' at work. "Yeah?" he asked, trying not to sound too obviously wary.

She stopped hovering in the door, at least, and came to hold out a folded sheet of paper. "This came for you. It's from your father."

Chu Shuzhi had known that Professor Shen was from Dixing since their first meeting across the interrogation table.

"I will not stop kissing you until you understand that I love you and that I don't want that you sacrifice or do something like this again, we will deal all of this together"

Zhao Yunlan's job is to save a few kids. He's got that. He just has a few questions. Like where are they, and how do they get out of here, and why does his head hurt so much?

And who the hell is this guy in the black cloak and mask?

It took most of a day to get up into the mountains near Dragon City, and to the currently empty retreat facility the University kept. Shen Wei had been there before, shepherding various classes to and from the biosciences observation center a little further north. It was a fairly familiar area, by now, which meant the wave of nostalgia that hit him as they unpacked the car took him by surprise.

When General Kunlun is brought forward in time, he takes on the name Zhao Yunlan and settles in as a police officer to continue protecting the alliance. And then he meets a Dixing genetics professor who doesn't remember him at all...

Zhao Yunlan had fantasized about Shen Wei’s wings.

Of course he had, anyone with a pair of working eyes and some common sense would take one look at Professor Shen and wonder just what kind of wings he had. Zhao Yunlan spent much of his time alone – both in the secrecy of his office and at home – coming up with different types of wings for Shen Wei. From the moment their hands touched, Zhao Yunlan had felt as though something inside him had slotted into place, like finding the missing piece of a jigsaw puzzle, except he hadn’t ever realized that he was missing anything.

After he brings Shen Wei back from Dixing, Zhao Yunlan takes him home to recover and take it easy for once in his damn life. It doesn’t go exactly as planned.

This was gold, as far as Zhao Yunlan was concerned. Lin Jing was in a quandary, and Shen Wei was about to reveal his dating history. This was a two-lollipop occasion.

A surge of fear and anger held Ye Zun still, both in removing the mask and approaching his brother.

If I don’t like it, I’ll just go back—that’s what I told myself. But I don’t want to go back. I’m going to get a job. I wish I could send you this. I wish you had come with me.

(A sequel to All the Colours of the World.)

The thing was, Zhao Yunlan wanted to blame it on the opera, except he’d found himself genuinely enjoying it. The first part, that is, before the attempt on his life.
