The man had a great body. That was just a fact. Zhao Yunlan was comfortable in his sexuality to normally admit such things, but this was Lin Jing they were talking about. They were coworkers. He was annoying too, something Zhao Yunlan was reminded of almost every time the man opened his mouth. Also, Zhao Yunlan would bet extra bonuses for the entire department that if Lin Jing was at all interested in any sort of hook up (which Zhao Yunlan definitely didn’t want), that the man would be a top. Zhao Yunlan knew what he liked and when he was younger he had his own share of awkward make outs that lead nowhere because of realized incompatible preferences. He did not need to relive those moments now, especially not with Lin Jing. He’d trust his gaydar on this one.
To Zhao Yunlan's panic, Zhu Hong didn't seem willing to let it go and just watch him be grumpy and frustrated over something he didn't want to do anything about. She took it as a personal mission.
The hardest part was perhaps how oblivious Lin Jing was to all of this. Especially when they had a murder case that always happened on Halloween, and now it was approaching again.

In hindsight, Chu Shuzhi should have seen it coming. He’s grown so used to Guo Changcheng being more comfortable around him that he forgot to take his cowardly nerves into account—of course an unexpected goodnight kiss would lead to fireworks of the wrong kind.

Shen Wei instinctively reaches for his pendant, the familiar weight steadying him as his mind circles around the same painful questions that have been haunting him. Should he tell Zhao Yunlan the truth? Will it put him in danger?

Zhao Yunlan's consciousness somehow manages to enter the Pillar. He meets Ye Zun, a figure made of swirling smoke. They talk, they play. It distracts Zhao Yunlan, it entertains Ye Zun. The latter has a personal vendetta against his brother and is searching for someone. Both don't realise Zhao Yunlan is that someone.

A note about early season canon: At the end of this episode Zhu Jiu sounds surprised that a mere college professor was able to counteract Wang Yike's fast, fatal aging power, which I took to mean he has not yet figured out that Shen Wei is the Envoy...and on that fragile, fragile foundation is built a story.

“You are not a four year old child.”
“Hum… Tricky question” the boy answered, finger knocking on the side of his nose “But no, I’m not. And you are not just a cat”.
“Spiritual Cat, actually” his companion corrected “You may call me Master Da Qing.”
At those words, Wei Wuxian couldn't help but laugh, face brightening for a short second before he bowed to the side, expression playful.
“Master Da Qing” he grinned “You can call me Yiling Patriarch, then”.

Ye Zun just wanted to see the human that's so important to his brother with his own eyes, but things don't quite go according to plan.

Zhao Yunlan put himself in danger again, and Shen Wei isn't happy about it.

Zhao Yunlan wakes up covered in a cold sweat and a sharp nausea twisting in his belly. He can't make his legs work right, so he crawls to the bathroom. He hugs the toilet bowl, holding himself up by sheer force of will as he wretches into it.

There were times in the middle of the night when Chu Shuzhi caught a chill. He thought maybe it was a sense memory of all those nights spent freezing on a cold and hard prison floor.

Chu Shuzhi had no idea how much the new SID recruit would change his life.

When Chu Shuzhi finds out that Guo Changcheng has never been on a vacation, he decides that just won't do. After getting their personal time off approved and flying both of them out to London, Chu Shuzhi realizes that their time off together is making him feel things. Except he wonders if those feelings are new, or if he's just been ignoring them all this time.

"Let them go, and I'll do what you want," Zhao Yunlan says. His voice wavers a little, but he ignores it. He tilts his chin up a little, trying to look determined, staring defiantly into the dark. Staring at the thing he can't see, waiting in the dark.

What if things didn't quite go the way it originally did? What if Shen Wei wasn't as alone as he thought he was?

Shen Wei had lived for over 10,000 years: searching, waiting, learning, and keeping the peace. Throughout that time he lost himself a little bit and was just going through the motions as the Envoy and dedicating his time as a Professor to his students. Especially the one Dixing student he had saved that now insisted Shen Wei was a savior to them all. Every thing was fine until he came across a corpse, a student hanging from a cord, and a familiar face in a window.

A re-write of Guardian with Shen Wei whump and Zhao Yunlan paying closer attention and stubbornly insisting on taking care of Shen Wei. Also a new take on the Hallows, what if they got annoyed at the unsuccessful time loops and decided to help out a bit by giving Shen Wei premonitions? What of all those close calls SID had were only close calls because Shen Wei knew they were going to happen before it actually occurred?
