It wasn’t a question; he had a feeling he knew exactly what had happened, and the unimpressed looking cat staring at him from the middle of the kitchen told him his hunch was correct. He very clearly remembered setting an alarm when he finally dropped into bed sometime in the early hours of the morning. If it hadn’t gone off, then —

“I should have been fed hours ago,” Daqing said, his eyes unblinking in his whiskered face. “What are you trying to do, starve me?”

Or, Daqing tries to take care of Zhao Yunlan in his own way.

Chu Shuzhi has always been curious about powers beyond what he should mess with. The thick, blazing merits of his colleague have been seeming tasty lately.

The New Year rings in with another chaotic work gathering and the possibility of new feelings stirring among colleagues.

The dating rumor spread quick and Daqing took it upon himself to talk to the new couple

Zhao Yunlan liked how it was between them. He knew the romantic feelings he felt when he started dating someone was different than how he felt with Lin Jing. His best friend. The one he trusted the most in this world… and the one he happened to have casual sex with whenever he wasn’t in a relationship.
One statement, though, and he had Lin Jing reevaluating all of that.
Over the years, what had started as a mix of curiosity and mutual trust to experience and enjoy pleasure, had become a form of affection that was unique to them - their sex didn't start in bed and didn't end in the aftercare. There was more to that, a seemingly unbreakable friendship that had not been shaken by Zhao Yunlan's other relationships, but had been strengthened by their duties in the Department, by the multiple times they had entrusted their lives to each other.
Regardless of whether their feelings for each other were named or remained just the silent understanding between them, it was good enough. Most of the time.

“Yunlan,” Shen Wei said, the admonition at complete odds with the rasp in his voice and the way his hips stuttered up into Zhao Yunlan’s, “you still have forms to sign.” He nodded at Zhao Yunlan’s desk beside them, where there was indeed a stack of papers, only half read, that had been left there by Wang Zheng the night before.

In response, Zhao Yunlan pressed a string of kisses against the line of Shen Wei’s jaw, each one leading inevitably to the next. While Shen Wei was distracted, he moved one hand, the heel pressing against where Shen Wei strained hard against the seam of his pants.

Or, Shen Wei pays a visit to Zhao Yunlan at work. Zhao Yunlan proceeds to get exactly...no work done.

Chu Shuzhi and Guo Changcheng like to have fun at night, and this time, Chu Shuzhi photographed it. Unfortunately, Lin Jing is a little shit.

"Gege, they're saying you're a Christmas angel. Is that true?" A little boy who should be the leader of the bunch of despicable little creatures dared to address him.
He wasn't so cruel as to want to rip out the child's tongue just because he had spoken to him, though. And by all accounts, he didn't know what a Christmas angel was.
"I'm afraid I must be a Christmas Ghost, little sir," he replied with a wave of his hand, shooing the children away. When they scattered and regrouped towards the plump old man in red, he sighed in relief. "Perhaps this is my signal to leave this place for good..."
Many people blended together in Zhao Yunlan's sight, all bundled up in coats and bustling around, but one man stood out. He stood nearby, enjoying a warm cup of cider from one of the stalls, watching the silver haired man that had caught his eye not too long ago.
“Why a ghost and not an angel?” he asked in a way of greeting as he stopped to stand beside the silver haired man.

Gui Mian just wanted to know what the city was like before he tore it all down, but he had unfortunately chosen a bad time. A Christmas market definetely wasn't in his plans.

The matching pyjamas were actually Yunlan’s idea. Which is weird, because Yunlan never thought of himself as much of a pyjama guy

Chu Shuzhi is my favorite character in Guardian and I love that he's so grumpy on the outside, but a real softie on the inside. And I think Changcheng really brings that out of him.

Shen Wei sighed at the lack of space, but he didn’t push the other away. He continued to focus on his cooking, leaving his brother to his goal of coffee. It was actually quite easy for him to move naturally around the other. Countless lifetimes spent together in so many ways made it second nature. Their dinner wasn’t in any danger just because Mianmian was being a menace. Sometimes the other misbehaved just to annoy Shen Wei, other times he knew it was deeper than that. Not a test but seeking reassurance. That Shen Wei was there. That he wasn’t going anywhere. Because deep down, Mianmian was still that little ghost king tugging on his brother’s robes with bloody hands.

Shen Wei held two worlds together for 10,000 years, and all the thanks he gets is shuffled off into the darkness.

Zhao Yunlan has taken a lot of shit in his life, but this, this he refuses to accept.
