Zhao Yunlan is one of the best officers Shen Wei has worked with. Intuitive, intelligent, and brave. But he’s also brash, mouthy, and was raised for most of his youth by Zhao Xinci. He’s not above casual bigotry. Vampires feed on humans; vampires seek to control humans. Humans fear and hate them. Zhao Yunlan’s mental model doesn’t excuse the significant proportion of the species who work to hold the balance. Who recognize that chaos and bloodshed isn’t a solution.

But Shen Wei remembers. He remembers a time that hasn’t happened yet. A time when things will be otherwise.

In which Pei Su applies everything he learned to seduce Luo Weizhao, and Luo Weizhao plows through his defenses in the only way he knows how.

The arrangement being Shen Wei would keep an eye on Pei Su utilizing his contacts on campus, and they would try both methods. Yunlan had joked about placing bets, but quietly dropped the idea when Shen Wei just stared at him for too long.

Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan are going to adopt Pei Su whether he likes it or not, and they're also going to be disgustingly adorable and domestic on the side, as a treat.

“I didn’t ask.” Zhao Yunlan shrugged, and grabbed another chair from one of the nearby tables, scraping it loudly against the floor. He sat on it backward, his legs spread to either side, his arms folded over the backrest, chin perched on his forearms so he could stare at Pei Su. “Eat.”

Taking another of Professor Shen’s boring lectures on classic literature would be no hardship for no other reason than to understand how Professor Shen had landed himself a man like Yunlan. And for purposes completely unrelated to Pei Su’s own scruffy police officer.

Although Mianmian existed under different conditions now, it didn’t mean he would let go of (most of) his obsessions and settle with a Buddhist cultivator, of all people. Still, there he was, quietly breathing the scent of incense lit under a Buddha statue, barefoot and dressed in one of Lin Jing's loose white t-shirts and simple cotton pants, observing the starry sky through the open balcony door slowly turning into a cloudy sky, while his (maybe) partner was (supposedly) meditating, sitting on the living room rug.
He could handle 'that' - his own mind. Not like before, when he couldn’t even see how much he had lost himself in the blurry line between the truth of all that unfairness and the tricks of his flawed heart.

Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei had a fight. And this is the aftermath of it. With lots of realizations, and lots of memories.
