It’s a what if: Shen Wei returns to Haixing instead of going to the pillar.

Written for Writeseptember2025 by the Hurt/Comfort Italia group.

"Are you sure you don't know why Zhao-chu put you and me on this mission?" Lin Jing asked again.
"I have no idea," Gui Mian lied. "I also have no idea whose brilliant mind was behind the proposal that I'm more useful in the Guardian Order than living my life away from you all. I've already received enough punishments for things that shouldn't even be punished…"

"Xiao Guo thought it would be a good idea for me to learn more about your world through modern movies. Lin Jing is definitely not helping by choosing sci-fi and horror," Ye Zun said.
"Look," Lin Jing began, offended. "To start with, if you think about what we've been through, sci-fi and horror are pretty realistic, too."
"I don't know who I'll stand on that one..." Xiao Guo confessed.

Now that Dixing was finally open and free, and Shen Wei worked even harder than before to adjust - himself, his people and the Haixingren - to that new reality, Ye Zun wondered what he could do, if he still didn’t know how to fit in that world. A shared one.
Not all Haixingren were faceless existences to him anymore; he’d seen those faces up close, deliberately hurt many of them. Ye Zun was sure he didn’t need to see any of those too specific faces right now, when all he wanted was a break and some fresh air.
“How can I be so unlucky?”

"They've been locked in there for hours," Zhu Hong commented the obvious, without taking her eyes off the direction of the laboratory door.
"Chu-ge, do you think we should intervene? What if- What if-" Guo Changcheng wanted to come up with a good enough reason for them to raid the lab, but at the same time, he didn't want to think about what kind of accusation someone might unfairly receive if he started imagining too much.
"It'll be fine, Changcheng," Chu Shuzhi said from beneath the file folder covering his face as he tried to take a nap in the chair. "Lin Jing has survived that lab and himself for years enough."
"But not with company."

"I thought you wanted a deal," Lin Jing teased while his partner was unable to answer.
"You put up with me causing trouble all night. And you gave me a great time having to hug me from behind to hide certain things in public because not even around our friends were you less turned on by me. It was flattering. Consider your end of the deal paid.”

Cong Bo took a closer look at the situation around him. And the belated realization hit him harder than if he'd suddenly woken up one day with technological amnesia, and all he knew was analog.
"Am I the only single person here?"

Zhao Yunlan is one of the best officers Shen Wei has worked with. Intuitive, intelligent, and brave. But he’s also brash, mouthy, and was raised for most of his youth by Zhao Xinci. He’s not above casual bigotry. Vampires feed on humans; vampires seek to control humans. Humans fear and hate them. Zhao Yunlan’s mental model doesn’t excuse the significant proportion of the species who work to hold the balance. Who recognize that chaos and bloodshed isn’t a solution.

But Shen Wei remembers. He remembers a time that hasn’t happened yet. A time when things will be otherwise.

And he waits. And he hopes.

The arrangement being Shen Wei would keep an eye on Pei Su utilizing his contacts on campus, and they would try both methods. Yunlan had joked about placing bets, but quietly dropped the idea when Shen Wei just stared at him for too long.

Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan are going to adopt Pei Su whether he likes it or not, and they're also going to be disgustingly adorable and domestic on the side, as a treat.

The treat is for the author, she needs the treat.

“I’m not hungry.”

“I didn’t ask.” Zhao Yunlan shrugged, and grabbed another chair from one of the nearby tables, scraping it loudly against the floor. He sat on it backward, his legs spread to either side, his arms folded over the backrest, chin perched on his forearms so he could stare at Pei Su. “Eat.”

Pei Su would very much like to finish his degree program and head back to Hope City to put his plans in motion ASAP, too bad he's been adopted like the feral cat he is.

Yunlan discovers that one of Shen Wei's students has a crush. The question is, on who? Him? Shen Wei? Someone else? And what is Yunlan going to do about it?

Getting caught in the rainstorm was worth it.

I'm just dropping my headcanons for the "Shen Wei's School for the Criminally Gay" universe here…

I plan to expand on them later.

Professor Shen was a decent enough lecturer. Not the best, but certainly not the worst either. Overall, a solid 5/10. And Pei Su wasn't planning on taking anymore classes taught by him only…

Only then Pei Su saw Professor Shen's husband Yunlan and…

Well. There was nothing for it. Clearly this relationship needed to be studied more closely. Taking another of Professor Shen’s boring lectures on classic literature would be no hardship for no other reason than to understand how Professor Shen had landed himself a man like Yunlan. And for purposes completely unrelated to Pei Su’s own scruffy police officer.

Pei Su sees Yunlan and Shen Wei being cute together thinks "that's what I want with Weizhoa" and decides to put everything about Shen Wei under a microscope while simultaneously missing the entire point of why they work, and that's why he's like That.

Thousands of zhang under the Huangquan, Lin Jing wasn't dead. Even his senses, which had been lost, were no longer missing. Not even the wounded spots on his body remained injured. The familiar face was not familiar at all, nor was the voice. Gui Mian hadn't introduce himself properly, but Lin Jing had heard the secretive whispers in the Netherworld.
The Fake Monk should have been terrified to death. But there were too many things distracting him from that.

Zhu Hong glares down at the workbook in front of her, trying to untangle the equation on the page through sheer force of will alone. It is raining today, so the light shining through the glass doors of her father's apothecary is grey and feeble. The glare of the fluorescent lights inside are giving her a headache — or maybe that's just the homework.

Why do humans have to learn these stupid things? Back in the Snake Tribe lands, they were taught useful things, like how to identify and grow medicinal plants, how to fight off vengeful ghosts, and of course, cultivation. What are math equations supposed to do for them, anyway? It's not like you can eat them or use them to reach a higher plane of existence.
