In which Shen Wei loses the love of his life.

When a supernatural crime happens in Dragon City, unwritten rules are to be respected. A murder investigation on a vampire coven's turf, for instance, should be reported to said coven's patriarch.

When Zhao Yunlan follows exactly that rule, patriarch Shen Wei decides to join the hunt for the responsible monster. Is it merely out of a sense of duty as he claims, or does he have other reasons?

It’s an unfortunate side-effect of his survival. The migraines. Fortunately Shen Wei is used to being hurt… right up until he isn’t anymore.

Luckily though, he also isn’t alone. Shen Wei is never alone. Not anymore.

In the course of an entirely normal murder investigation Zhao Yunlan ends up watching a video that tells him he's going to die in three days time.

"You know, from the first time I met you, I had this feeling - a sense that there was something more to us, something I was missing." Zhao Yunlan grinned. "I had no idea how much more."

Or: "I'm glad we waited. Taking it slow, all this time - it brought us here, today."

A meet-cute. That's how people usually call it, right?

Why is it called a meet-cute, when all Ye Zun got from that was a first degree burn on his chest, a new rag made from his favourite shirt, and a photography student pestering him about an astrophotography trip?

As if anything about the personification of his burn - unpleasant, itchy, and painful - could be cute.
