Shen Wei had lived for over 10,000 years: searching, waiting, learning, and keeping the peace. Throughout that time he lost himself a little bit and was just going through the motions as the Envoy and dedicating his time as a Professor to his students. Especially the one Dixing student he had saved that now insisted Shen Wei was a savior to them all. What of all those close calls SID had were only close calls because Shen Wei knew they were going to happen before it actually occurred?

Changcheng was struck by the fact that it was an observation instead of a question. It made him feel an odd sort of warmth inside to be so closely watched. That someone would bother to notice.

“Yes… but, I feel this sense of, hmmm maybe not achievement, but it feels like restoring some kind of balance to convey the messages. It makes it worth it,” Changcheng said with a small smile.

One day, the younger twin had been afraid that his brother had left for good, but it had only been a brief departure - from that day onwards they could probably count on the tips of their fingers how many times they had actually been apart for anything.
Shen Wei sighed at the lack of space, but he didn’t push the other away. He continued to focus on his cooking, leaving his brother to his goal of coffee. It was actually quite easy for him to move naturally around the other. Countless lifetimes spent together in so many ways made it second nature. Their dinner wasn’t in any danger just because Mianmian was being a menace. Sometimes the other misbehaved just to annoy Shen Wei, other times he knew it was deeper than that. Not a test but seeking reassurance. That Shen Wei was there. That he wasn’t going anywhere. Because deep down, Mianmian was still that little ghost king tugging on his brother’s robes with bloody hands.

Shen Wei held two worlds together for 10,000 years, and all the thanks he gets is shuffled off into the darkness.
