There are strange happenings on Dragon City University Campus: students are disappearing and then reappearing dead. Zhào Yúnlán (in all his infinite wisdom) decides to go undercover and run the campus coffee shop to try to crack the case.

In the silence of his apartment, Shen Wei presses the door shut, turns the lock. And then, like his body was waiting until he was alone, his legs give out. He tips into the wall, sinks down to sitting on his front mat. Closes his eyes.

Or, after the kitchen scene, Shen Wei gets a drunk voicemail from Zhao Yunlan.

Shen Wei enjoys dinner with his new comrades and finds himself uncertain about what's offered to him.

Some of his scars, Zhao Yunlan wants nothing to do with. There’s a long white line on the inside of his forearm that he deflects attention from, drawing it away when Shen Wei presses his mouth there and substituting the honey-gold curve of his hip instead. There are old scars on his back, tucked into the shallow culverts of his ribs, dark discolorations that make him squirm in Shen Wei’s grip when he brushes the flats of his fingertips over them.

Or: Shen Wei comes to understand an unspoken facet in Zhao Yunlan's relationship with his father.

During the dark days of the occupied French Concession, Luo Fei helps an injured young captain of the Republican Military Intelligence. [text and podfic]

Only now, knowing what he knew, could Wu Tian’en understand that whatever Heipaoshi had loved so much was not Haixing itself, but one man born of this land.
One man, whose last remaining memory was now put in Heipaoshi’s stone hands.
Somehow, Wu Tian’en couldn’t help but think that this was what they both would have wanted.
For the memory of them to be reunited at least.

An alternate version of episode 40, taking place just after Ye Zun realizes the truth. I played a little fast and loose with the timeline of the episode (in addition to changing the outcome).

“Zhao-chuzhang, you can’t – this really isn’t…” Shen Wei’s chin is resting on his shoulder; out of the corner of his eye Zhao Yunlan can see the light flickering on the lens of his glasses, the pale point of his nose. He’s slurring his words just slightly, either exhausted or overcome or both. “It’s too much,” he murmurs, as though Zhao Yunlan had stripped off his clothes and started doing a fan dance, rather than hauling his ass step by grueling step out of the sunlight.

“Your definition of too much doesn’t come close to mine,” replies Zhao Yunlan.

Ye Huo doesn't show up for drinks. Lao Chu and Xiao Guo worry. Everyone pitches in to help.

“You know, Shen-jiaoshou, given how easy-going you are I’m a little surprised you’re not more often surrounded by unprincipled rogues who want you for nothing more than your good looks. But perhaps you have a proven technique to drive them off? Was I unnecessary?”

Shen Wei turns, Zhao Yunlan’s hand slipping from his waist. His other hand, he sees, is tucked in the back pocket of his jeans. Casual; easy-going. Just a man out on a date with his… what? Boyfriend? Lover? The words brand themselves in Shen Wei’s throat, red and inflamed as he swallows and almost chokes. “Are you requesting a demonstration?” he murmurs, the corner of his mouth crooked upwards.

On the edge of the battlefield, Da Qing is trapped against a fall of boulders by a rebel fighter with a spear. Da Qing is giving ground with every blow. There’s blood streaked across his cheek. He’s flagging.
They’re more than a li away. Shen Wei won’t get there in time.

Or, something had to happen for Shen Wei to start thinking of himself as a weapon.

Ye Zun has no soulmate, unlike those people he saw in movies, unlike his brother with Zhao Yunlan. So when Da Qing opted into Cupid's service to find himself a mate, Ye Zun had to make sure that he was the only person that arrow would hit.

Surprisingly, the arrow gave him an ability that he could use to ensure that Da Qing is to be his and his alone.

Just a little place to put my danmei thoughts. Every chapter title is a different topic, commentary, review, or tribute. Many chapters will simply be drabbles or short stories inspired by art or the source material. Sometimes Artificial Intelligent Art will be used. I will always label this clearly.

After each puzzling death, the Black-Cloaked Envoy appears, a tall lithesome form who bends to touch dead skin, to feel the resonance of his people there. These deaths are caused by Dixingren somehow, he affirms. Zhao Yunlan watches him, as he always does. The long, fine-boned stretch of his hands. The flash of his uncovered throat inside the gloaming of his hood, like a birch tree in the dark. The Black-Cloaked Envoy’s eyes fall to his, sometimes, when they talk. Zhao Yunlan can feel the weight of his gaze.

OR: Zhao Yunlan is the last victim of SID's latest case: a Dixingren whose power is to amplify the heart's desire a hundred-fold.

His dreams were an invaluable source of information, though Ye Zun found himself learning useless things, too.
For example, Zhao Yunlan used lollipops as a replacement for smoking tobacco. In his dream, he'd smoke freely, smiling after the first drag. He'd say how he missed it while offering the same tobacco stick - a cigarette, that's how Zhao Yunlan called it - to Ye Zun.
But he wasn't Ye Zun, in that dream, was he?
He had Shen Wei's face, Shen Wei's body, Shen Wei's voice, Shen Wei's everything.
Shen Wei, Shen Wei, Shen Wei, it's always Shen Wei.

Exactly what the title says XD

"But what would you like to do?" Zhao Yunlan asks, and Shen Wei doesn't have an answer.
