A chance meeting in a forest leads Prince Zhao Yunlan down a path filled with kindness and love, but also into a dangerous political web he much rather avoid. Shen Wei hopes to keep the secret of who he really is from ever seeing the light of day.

Long black hair, black silk crumbling off, pale skin, not a hint of rot. They were pinned by some sort of sword or dagger to the base of the mechanism into a standing position. He looked… they looked alive? They were beautiful, breathtakingly so. A straight, high nose, black eyebrows like they had been painted by an artist's hand, and long, long eyelashes.

Wu Xie swallowed. He was straight! He liked women! He… thought this person was one of the most attractive people he’d ever seen. Next to Xiao Hua and Xiaoge of course. Top three, definitely.

Their lips looked soft, with the barest blush of pink and Wu Xie… really wanted to kiss them. He was by himself, the memory of the monster far behind him. No one would have to know. He leaned in, lips brushing the dry ones of the corpse-

And the corpse sighed.

Shen San was just a man. Under the plum tree, his tombstone told a little story that perhaps only a broken-hearted poet and an enlightened-hearted monk could decipher. The characters engraved next to his name were in a shape as beautiful as Shen Wei's calligraphy flowing from brush to paper.
This was the first time that Shen Wei had come here with a different appearance than Shen San had known.
"I have little time left but I decided to start another life in the human world, it's been a while since the last time. In your time, you said to me 'you are young but completely adult, so what?' before you were sure that I was much older than you had imagined.”
About making a different decision this time, the last time, the only person Shen Wei had to ask for advice was Shen San - even though his words could only exist in Shen Wei's heart.

It is always worse when the Guardian is born either too high or too low in society.

"You don't have enough bodies, do you?" Shen Wei asks. Just arriving, he'd glanced briefly at notes on their improvised whiteboard and made this entirely too astute observation. 

Still, Zhao Yunlan isn't one to pass up an opportunity, so he says, "What would I want more bodies for, I have a great one already. You think so too; last night you—"

"Chief!" "Lao Zhao!" A chorus of groans echoes around the room from his subordinates, but it's worth it for the faint blush that colors Shen Wei's cheeks and the rather more pronounced scowl as he glares at Zhao Yunlan.

Zhu Jiu watches from behind a tree across the street, frowning deeply. It had been such a good plan. He'd been careful, and it had been very close to the perfect crime. The local authorities hadn't noticed a thing, not even after he'd had the scheme going for months.
