Shen Wei and Gui Mian both go into the Guardian Lantern when they do in canon. The wick is still lit, but Shen Wei doesn’t come back out immediately. He and Gui Mian instead get reincarnated because they have to have their souls appropriately connected to them. Gui Mian reincarnates first.

They didn't part on best terms, but they are still siblings.

Many people blended together in Zhao Yunlan's sight, all bundled up in coats and bustling around, but one man stood out. He stood nearby, enjoying a warm cup of cider from one of the stalls, watching the silver haired man that had caught his eye not too long ago.
“Why a ghost and not an angel?” he asked in a way of greeting as he stopped to stand beside the silver haired man.

Gui Mian just wanted to know what the city was like before he tore it all down, but he had unfortunately chosen a bad time. A Christmas market definetely wasn't in his plans.

Zhao Yunlan snags a seat at the back of the lecture hall with about seven seconds to spare. Perfect timing, he thinks — by which he means that Shen Wei can only shoot him a sharp, curious glance from the front of the room before he clears his throat and has to begin class.
