“We have you down as one person in a single room, Mr Zhao,” she said. “The room isn’t ready for two, but we have other rooms — your business partner could get one of those.”

“Ah, uh.” Zhao Yunlan smiled and made a show of glancing meaningfully at Shen Wei. “We’ll be fine with just the one.”

Shen Wei was Dixingren. Shen Wei had lied.

Currently, the SID team somehow found themselves separated.

Guo Changcheng supposed they could now consider this operation one that had gone sideways. So very much so.

A hand shoved him roughly forward, “Run faster.”

That was Chu Shuzhi, his shadow that was always there to protect him and to make certain Chu Shuzhi knew he was running, Guo Changcheng gasped. “I’m running Chu-ge, I’m running!”

There are several in-between moments that didn't fit into the overall flow of the main story, but I wanted to add them afterwards for anyone interested enough to stick around, since they're already rattling around in my head.
There will also be some that take place after the ending, but this one is for some of those moments between chapters or paragraph breaks that you might have been wondering about.

A nice night out in a park

Driven by a sense of morbid curiosity Zhao Yunlan stepped closer. This was not the result he expected when he told Shen Wei to get what he wanted.

During his first visit to Dixing searching for the Dijun book, Zhao Yunlan ends up with more than he bargained for. Shen Wei hadn't bargained with it either, if for very different reasons.

When chasing a suspect brings an unexpected surprise concerning the Envoy, Zhao Yunlan isn't quite sure how to handle the situation.

A rather urgent need comes to a head after Shen Wei's rescue from the pillar.

“My name is Zhang Shi,” said the stranger inside Shen Xi’s husband. “Don’t be scared.”

“Ha!” Was she scared? Without taking her eyes off him, she tested the knot of feelings behind her sternum: fear, fury, an ache welling up beneath, which she didn’t have time to identify. “I’m not scared,” she lied. “Are you going to answer the rest of my questions?”

Zhao Yunlan gets a rather delicate assignment that leads him to broaden his group of friends. Shen Wei is smitten. Chu Shuzhi is done TM.

What was the measure of a leader? Was it the ability to make difficult decisions and from those decisions take action? Or was it the sacrifices they were willing to make?

"Stars aligned in a perfect sky" is a beautiful work currently being posted by Hyde_DualDomination here on AO3, the only fanfiction I know in years and in all fandoms I’m part of, that values Hindu Culture and Myths to its worldbuilding.
I don't know how to make art, but I had to do something. And here's it! I hope you enjoy!

“Changcheng, this is the second time your weapon’s failed. It’s dangerous. You need to ask Lin Jing to fix it.”

Two years after Shen Wei’s death, Zhao Yunlan is still mourning his husband when SID receives an unusual request from the Iron Triangle.
In the desert, a tomb displayed traces of non-human cultures, leading the Iron Triangle to conclude: Ancient Tribes, but which one? Looking for someone who knew about that, this led them to a man who has lived under grief and hopelessness. In the profiles, the face that always haunts Zhao’s thoughts is right in front of him, in a photograph. To see that face again and make sure that person - Wu Xie - has nothing to do with Shen Wei - he accepts the job as a pretext. But he isn't prepared to really face Wu Xie and everything he is.
He’s taken to the past, to the time he still ruled the mountains, where many things were not what he believed them to be, the dead were alive and the living told lies. When gods from other worlds intervened and changed a story he thought he knew.
Between looking for similarities and seeing differences, Zhao inevitably falls for one thing unique to Wu Xie: his smile. And the familiar fire in his eyes.
Could the key to his broken heart also be the key to his true self and the whole mystery behind the tomb?
