When Guo Ying knocked on the door of Zhao Xinci’s office, his Director of Supervision looked wary. Guo Ying wasn’t surprised.

After he brings Shen Wei back from Dixing, Zhao Yunlan takes him home to recover and take it easy for once in his damn life. It doesn’t go exactly as planned.

This was gold, as far as Zhao Yunlan was concerned. Lin Jing was in a quandary, and Shen Wei was about to reveal his dating history. This was a two-lollipop occasion.

A surge of fear and anger held Ye Zun still, both in removing the mask and approaching his brother.

If I don’t like it, I’ll just go back—that’s what I told myself. But I don’t want to go back. I’m going to get a job. I wish I could send you this. I wish you had come with me.

(A sequel to All the Colours of the World.)

The thing was, Zhao Yunlan wanted to blame it on the opera, except he’d found himself genuinely enjoying it. The first part, that is, before the attempt on his life.

A contemplation on the state of Dixing.

Lin Jing is good at his job.

Shen Wei pays a visit to a particular cave in Dixing that legends speak of.

Zhang Shi opened the door quickly, at his knock, brows rising as she saw both of them waiting. "Did something come up at the Division?"

"No." Shen Wei let the weight of his responsibilities settle over him, and saw the reflection of it in the half step back Zhang Shi took. "Things have come to my attention that must be addressed."

Shen Wei could give a number of reasons why he wanted to avoid Kunlun's incessant invitations to spar.

Professor Ouyang's work isn't through causing trouble, and everyone finds out why injuring Zhao Yunlan is an extremely bad idea. The Minster finds out a lot of things no one bothered to tell him earlier, and possibly wishes he hadn't taken the job. Drama with a Pinch of Action, Romance Of Course, I-4

Shen Wei enjoyed the quiet times in his life, the times when he had no miscreants to chase down; when the humans were calm, not indulging in wars of conquest or moving their seat of government again; when his chosen profession had no crises and he could let himself be soothed by completing the small, daily tasks. He enjoyed those times very much, but he didn't take them for granted.

“Why do you hate me so much?”

The question spills from his lips despite his own reservations. It hangs in the air between them, feeling like it could be a sword of damnation or a bridge and Shen Wei has no idea which one he wants it to be. He doesn’t even know why he returns here day after day, pleading and begging at the foot of an elaborate prison with a person he once knew was his brother.

Shen Wei groaned. "Is this still about the phone —"

I couldn’t take my eyes off of you no matter how hard I tried. As if an invisible string pulled me to you, and a sense of familiarity screamed inside of me, but I didn’t know you. I couldn’t have. Because if I had ever met you before, there was no way I could have ever forgotten you. And still…

Four people are wakeful at night. Shen Wei thinks about Ye Zun. Zhang Shi thinks about her new life. Ya Qing thinks about Zhu Hong. Zhao Yunlan thinks about his own past. Drama, Character Study, I-3

Shen Wei leaned with his head propped on one hand and watched Yunlan sleep. Watched, on another level, the deep weight of him reach out to the world around them, touch the weave of the world with the same soft affection as he'd always had.

Watched how the brightness of Yunlan's potentiality reached out to Shen Wei, in particular, now.
