Shen Wei doesn’t invite Zhao Yunlan to the university’s Coming Out Ball. They go anyway, and the entire SID team goes with them.

Daqing watches Zhao Yunlan meet Professor Shen. He doesn’t remember the last time, but he can already tell this time will be a disaster.

Shen Wei remembers meeting Zhao Yunlan for the first time. There had been something different about him—about Kunlun. They’d all heard of the rumored Kunlun-jun, and with his name, the promise of an end to the conflict.
But he’d appeared suddenly, and strangely, alone.

Shen Wei sees the world a bit differently from everyone else, but it never mattered until he met Kunlun.

Zhao Yunlan goes to a society event, sees everyone else get to flirt with Shen Wei, and drags him home for some boning. Shen Wei is more than happy to go along with it.

“Who else from law school are you still in contact with?” Yunlan asks, curious.

“A couple of people,” Shen Wei says vaguely. “Longcheng is not a big city. It’s a pretty small legal community. You’re bound to run into some of them around.”

“And yet,” Yunlan says, tone light, “we’ve managed to go seven years without any contact at all. Imagine that.”

Shen Wei stares back evenly. “Yeah. Imagine that,” he echoes.

Forbidden love, Yunlan’s (great) ass, he’s going to marry Shen Wei, Dixing and Al Capone be damned.

Three years ago I was one of many people who signed an open letter to the OTW calling on them to do more to address racism on their platforms. When they responded with public statement promising to do more I was cautiously optimistic. However since then they have don't little to fulfill those promises. Today I am once again joining with my fellow fans and demanding that the OTW do better and honor their commitments. The "Our" in Archive of Our Own should include fans of color!

Already Zhao Yunlan can feel him wanting to retreat, to put his walls back up and pretend this will all go away. It makes Zhao Yunlan hold on tighter, push closer, get right up in his face. If those walls have to be rebuilt, they can encompass both of them this time.

The fallout after the dust has settled.

To save his brother, a young Shen Wei pledges his allegiance to a Dixing warlord. He grows up to become the most feared general in the Dixing Uprising. But that is not his destiny. His destiny drops from the sky one day in the form of a strange Haixingren who saves his life and changes everything, most of all Shen Wei's heart.

Yunlan gets a second chance at showing his little ghost king how much he loves him.
