Li Qian has a harmless crush, Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan are old married busybodies, and Zhu Hong didn't ask for this.

Shen Wei and his mother agreed on a horrifying amount of shit, but probably one of their worst things was their opinion on Zhao Yunlan's perfectly normal handwriting.

The moment when the words, "Take me instead!" had come out of Zhao Yunlan's mouth had been a slightly desperate one. Well, he always knew he'd go out on the job, he just didn't expect it to be as a sacrifice to summon—something.

Zhao Yunlan pushed himself off the floor, making a show of dusting himself off. Just some sort of magical protection, probably, that he'd managed to trigger when he'd lifted the lid of the box. Zhao Yunlan hadn't noticed anything off about it. No matter what Da Qing was saying, he didn't just go poke at things without any caution.

For all of his life, Shen Wei felt like an outcast. First, he was an orphan since he was practically a baby and grew up through the system until he was eighteen. Once he was eighteen, he put himself through college and graduate school, earning himself a doctorate in biology. While that was all fine and good, his other problem was that he didn’t have a soulmate. All around him, left and right, people were meeting and finding their soulmates, leaving him alone. Again. Not that he really minded; he didn’t have time for love and soulmates and all that crap. He had more important things to worry about, or so he told himself. Deep down, he wished he had a soulmate; someone to love him unconditionally, to be there when he had no one before. But he knew that at his age, it was impossible.

Desire was written plainly on Changcheng’s face, but it was also mixed with that look he got whenever he was steeling himself to venture outside his comfort zone.

Shuzhi knew that look very well: after all, watching Changcheng was one of his favorite past-times – had been for almost as long as he had known him. It had been useful in the field and at the office, but it had later turned out to be a blessing in their clearly less than professional relationship as well. A look, a sound, a touch: Shuzhi had come to learn what these meant in the bedroom and had been putting that knowledge to good use in order to make sex less intimidating, less awkward for Changcheng. So that he only felt safe, and loved, and understood – the way he made Shuzhi feel safe, and loved, and understood.

So, Shuzhi knew that look – and although it amused him a little to see it in bed, he couldn’t deny that he was also feeling a delightful thrum of anticipation just waiting there for Changcheng to make the next move.
