A story told about twins to twins. It should have inspired hope and keep them together through the worst parts of their young lives. In the end, fate planned a much tragic tale for them.

A low-stakes case investigating a cursed painting was supposed to be the perfect opportunity for Zhao Yunlan to cozy up to Shen Wei. Then a stubborn Black-Cloaked Rival for Shen Wei's affections showed up.

Zhao Yunlan is a goner, he’s so gone for this man because that’s all it takes to send him over the edge.

“What I don’t get,” he says, shaking the book in his hand, one of the few he’d found to mention Kunlun and the things that happened so very long ago (he’d gone on a hunt after he got back, a bit of a side-quest for knowledge… and admittedly, some self-satisfaction), “is how the hell I went from war general to some kind of mountain god in this version of events?”

He’d found the scroll book hidden in a nook in Dixing’s palace library, and he doesn’t know what made him reach for it, but before Zhao Yunlan had known what was happening, he was reading a very… embellished tale of his brief exploits ten millennia ago. 'A Mythology of the Mountain God Kunlun,' the title said. It was as ludicrous as it sounded.

“Maybe it’s just a misunderstanding.” Da Qing swipes the book out of his hand now, and unrolls it, reading bits and pieces here and there. Zhao Yunlan watches his face go through multiple emotions before settling on a cross between disgust and resignation.

Zhao Yunlan and Da Qing have a bit of a conversation about the former's time in the distant past, and how the myth of Kunlun has been warped in places down the line.

Zhao Yunlan orders Chu Shuzhi and Guo Changcheng to provide a diversion.

The two of them stared at him, then at each other. Then Guo Changcheng pushed his chair back and got down on one knee.

Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei looked at each other. "That was fast," Zhao Yunlan whispered.

Shen Wei gave him a soft smile. "Don't tell me you're surprised."

Both Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei come out unscathed from the showdown in the Underworld. Upon getting out of a brief coma and recovering from severe injuries, Shen Wei wakes up a different man. It's up to Zhao Yunlan to help Shen Wei find himself and save their past before it all goes up in flames. Mentions of little Ghost King's and Kunlun's past.

When Ye Zun sends his brother a domestic android to keep him company now that Ye Zun has moved out, Shen Wei thought he would butt heads with it and hate it. ZYL is nothing like any other domestic android Shen Wei has ever seen and that turns out to be a good thing.

The scarlet centers of the white meihua were startling amongst the slate walls of the palace courtyard. Yet, they could not measure up to the brilliance of the blood splattered across the snow ridden earth. A figure fell to their knees in silence behind the shadows as the blood-soaked orange blossoms saturated into the ground.

Summary: In the twilight before their next battle, Shen Wei and Ye Zun have a quiet dinner and revisit the moment that led to their lives as demon slayers.

For Guardian Week Day 5: Horror; Hurt/Comfort & Domesticity

Werewolves had certain rules they had to follow. One of them was to never use your real name in the woods. Shen Wei knew he couldn't break the rules. Even though he wanted to tell Kunlun his name just so he can possibly find him as a human. Another rule was to not fall in love. He clearly broke that one a long time ago.

He once owed Kunlun a life and he had promised Yunlan so much more.
There is no limit to what Shen Wei would do for love.

Zhao Yunlan goes to his parents' house for a family dinner, but things go awry rather quickly when people close to him start dying mysteriously. While Zhao Yunlan tries to make sense of it all, he starts to realize that something is definitely amiss. (Novelverse)
