“Dumbass,” mutters Chu-ge, and Changcheng’s self-consciousness and curiosity combine and escalate to unbearable levels. Is Chu-ge calling him a dumbass in a bad way? Is he mad? It’s so hard to tell with the mask obscuring half his face.

Watching the usually stoic professor like this was always a treat.

And in that moment, Shen Wei collapsed on Yun Lan. Air left his lungs and Yun Lan coughed at the sudden weight on him.

He turned Shen Wei over, checking for vital signs. His heart froze when he took his finger close to Shen Wei’s nose. He wasn’t breathing.

"No clothes," Zhao Yunlan manages. "Do the thing. Baby, please—" He doesn't get any further before there is a flare of dark indigo and they are both naked.

In all of Shen Wei's thousands of years awake he's had time on his hands.

Time that he didn't spend idle. Time where he threw himself (desperately so) into learning everything he could about the world above. Sometimes successfully so, other times not, much to JiaJia’s detriment.

While technology is something he will never fully appreciate the sciences in all their varied forms he does.

The name "Ye Zun" carried omens of division, murder, and pain.

He refused to go back to the darkest period of his existence. He never wanted to believe the worst of his brother and be without hope ever again.

The man once called Ye Zun learns the importance of names as his and Shen Wei's souls explore their newfound purgatory.

Yun Lan woke up in the middle of the night, not quite fully awake, just enough to throw his arm around Shen Wei. But Shen Wei wasn’t there. Yun Lan reached again for his husband and found air.
He found Shen Wei in the kitchen, his face turned away from him, shoulders hunched, reminding Yun Lan of one particular night.

Historians will call them anything but.

The question of love, residing on his mind, but he could only let him know through the stars over time.

But history hates lovers.

Zhao Yunlan is pretty sure she didn't make the best of first impressions on Shen Wei, for all that she did save him from some muggers. She probably wasn't even awake for her first meeting with Ye Zun. Oh, well, maybe the pretty people might keep her anyway? Because Zhao Yunlan really doesn't want to leave.

On days when they’d butted heads like today, when it came time to go home he always had to stifle a fear—that he’d pushed back too hard, that Shen Xi had finally given up on him. That when he opened the door, she wouldn’t be there.

He lay in bed spinning idle fantasies—and invariably, his thoughts turned to the Black-Cloaked Envoy.

After a trying day, all Shen Wei wanted was to go home to eat with Zhao Yunlan, not deal with a delayed commute.
