What could easily pass as the beginning of a mildly amusing joke is actually the life of Hua Cheng and Shen Wei who are...well. Two ghost kings renting a flat together, while looking for the gods they love so much.

Please, he thinks, not even trying to keep the utter desperation out of his thoughts. Let me bear it, let me take this pain, I will do anything.

“We got a new case.” Chief Zhao said around the habitual lollipop stick that poked out from between his teeth. “It’s a missing person’s report and before anyone asks no, it’s not a missing Dixingren.”

That earned a few raised eyebrows as well as an all-around soft murmur.

“I know these sorts don't usually fall in our laps, but the reports from the festival workers and eye-witnesses swear they can still hear the ghostly screams of the victims, so Dragon City Police has happily called us in.”

Shen Wei takes a breath; with the Regent finally gone, it's the first time he hasn't been under scrutiny since he clawed his way out of dreams and the earth both.

"You'll never get this through peer review," Shen Wei says, and then he pulls Yunlan up to kiss him.

This is the first time I decided to join the Whump Fest as a writer. I hope I'll be able to post a short drabble every day. I may add some tags (or forget to do it). There will be a lot of blood and tears but no main characters would be killed in production of this fic.
