Zhao Yunlan misses his ex. Especially when he's been drinking.
So he keeps calling. And Shen Wei keeps coming when he calls.
But this is not sustainable.

Zhao Yunlan is the prince of Haixing. Though his father is kind of a douchebag, he also has great friends, a comfortable life and the people of the kingdom who love him with all their heart. And though he likes taking long rides in the forest, he - of course - never met a dragon before. Nobody has for a long time now. People don’t even really believe in them anymore, they only exist in fairy tales and in the imagination of little kids. Or so thought Zhao Yunlan. But meeting a mysterious man with a black cloak turns everything upside down.

The treaty between Haixing and Dixing had many (many) stipulations written within it. Most of these clauses weren’t physically binding, but there were some that did affect Shen Wei. These specific conditions were there to make certain the enforcer of Dixing justice, Hei Pao Shi, could never go against Haixing and its people.

The one that hindered Shen Wei the most was the provision that curtailed the amount of dark energy he had access to outside of Dixing, but there were others that sometimes were just as frustrating.

In particular, the use of the incense which notified Shen Wei that Hei Pao Shi was needed. Most people were quite unaware that if he didn’t answer it within a specific time frame the treaty would automatically summon him to wherever the incense cone was.

How many has it been again? Time isn’t sure—as much as he tries with his clocks and his calendars and his notebooks, keeping count of things has always been a struggle. It’s such a human disposition, as inconsequential to him as it is significant to them. But he knows, with certainty, that there have been many so far.

Enough to capture his attention, anyhow.

Shen Wei sleeps late. He has a good reason for staying in bed.

Li Qian witnesses somehing she shouldn't have. Perhaps she would've been more concerned about Professor Shen turning out to be a literal alien if she were less tired.

It happens too fast even for his instincts and Shen Wei's desperate duck is too little too late. The blast of power hits him straight in the stomach, punching through him, hot and sticky. His spine arches from the strength of it, mouth opening in a silent scream. The feeling is so overwhelming that at first, he doesn't even realise it's pleasure coursing through him, not pain, but by then it doesn't matter.

Shen Wei doesn’t know what makes him come inside the shop. It is not a very remarkable place, off the beaten track really, hidden in one of the small alleys of the old town. True, it is getting late and the clouds suggest the possibility of rain in the near future, but Shen Wei is not far from his home so he doesn’t really need to seek shelter right now. Still, he stops in front of the shop.

He backs away from the countertop, eyes wide. “You messing with the thing before Shen Wei gets home is an even worse idea. You should just return it and get him…I don’t know…a watch or something.”

“Yeah, because that’s romantic,” Zhao Yunlan scoffs.
