The night they arrive in the mountains, Da Qing goes in search of mice and meets some hungry ghost children instead.

Zhao Yunlan gets a job offer he's a bit too curious to say no to, even if he never really planned on working for the government. Mostly because he never saw why the government would want a mostly useless historian. He didn't expect his new job to involve quite so much actual time travel.

Shen Wei wakes up after he fell down the abyss.

The one-bedroom house is cramped for three people, but it sits alone at the top of a hill, removed from the touch of civilization, secluded enough to curb the worst of Ye Zun’s hunger.

Shen Wei, Ye Zun and Zhao Yunlan learn to live together while trying out old and new kinks. It takes them several attempts to get it right.

Zhao Yunlan stood still, shoulders slightly hunched. He could hear the ragged wheezes as the dragon breathed through its pain, claws digging into Zhao Yunlan’s shoulder.

“I’m going to take this pretty girl—?” Zhao Yunlan intoned with a questioning tilt of his head. He wasn’t entirely sure if the dragon would understand him. The answer was a rough coughing sort of sound. “Ah.” He said, nodding amiably. “I’m going to take this pretty boy home and bandage him up.”

He can't bear it. Shen Wei realizes. The look in Zhao Yunlan's eyes. The unknowing look, as if he is looking at a complete stranger. No, he can't do this again.
