“Tell me how they do it in the Profane Land,” Kunlun murmurs against Wei’s throat.

“It’s a professionalism thing,” Shen Wei counters. “We’re both here for work.”

Yunlan lets out a noise of frustration. It’s not like he really wanted to do a goddamn lollipop commercial to begin with, it’s not even on-brand for him; the only reason why he agreed to take on the job is standing right in front of him, refusing to let Yunlan kiss him. “I’ll just cancel the contract. I’ll pay whatever damages that flow from my breach. Can you just please take your shirt off already?”

(Or, the one where famous actor Zhao Yunlan takes on a lollipop commercial, and ends up with a lot more sweetness in his life than he expected.)

Set early in their relationship, Shen Wei learns about Zhao Xin Ci.

Shen Wei doesn’t say anything for a long time, and Zhao Yunlan watches him: the long sweep of his eyelashes, the hollow of his cheeks, the slow rise and fall of his chest.

“Tell me about the case,” Shen Wei says, finally.

When ghost sightings start to pop up all over Dragon City, it’s up to the SID to crack open the case, even with Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei still recovering from Ye Zun’s defeat.

Shen Wei is tired, and Zhao Yunlan has things to say.

Zhu Yilong shakes Bai Yu's hand, making sure his touch doesn't linger. Sparks don't fly, his world doesn't turn upside down, and the smile he gives Bai Yu is all polite detachment.

Shen Wei's beginnings as a humble, technologically-impaired university student.

When Shen Wei and Ye Zun walk through the gate into the swirling purple mist, they are given not oblivion but a chance to start over.

Zhao Yunlan lifts an open palm, his smile turning into a grin. "Welcome to the SID!"

And then, because his brain-to-mouth filter is plainly broken, and upsetting Shen Wei to a previously unknown degree apparently calls for an encore, he adds, "Though I'm wondering, why do I get the impression you'd have been less upset if I'd asked for a kiss?"

Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei, trapped in the darkness under the mountain together while investigating a dangerous case, finally share some secrets and reach a new understanding.

Very unfortunately for Zhao Yunlan, the real Kunlun's relatives turn up and demand concessions. Fortunately for Zhao Yunlan, the concessions aren't unpleasant.
