Chu Shuzhi considers himself to be a relatively good neighbor. Not one that’s friendly and shares baked goods, but the one who’s quiet, never causes trouble, respects other people’s boundaries, and generally never says more than a few words to you the entire time you’re neighbors.

Usually Shen Wei is the one taking care of Zhao Yunlan when he's injured.

It’s late and raining and Shen Wei wants nothing more than to go home. But in front of him stands a child with fluffy hair holding a cat with fluffy fur and he can’t very well ignore that, can he?

When Shen Wei teleports to the site of the strange energy, he’s surprised to see a man sitting in the middle of a huge crater. It doesn’t take him long to realize that he’s not of Dixing; there’s an energy around him that’s foreign—dangerous.

It’s by chance that Shen Wei finds it—a blank diary on the shelf of the closing bookstore that no one wanted.

It’s not that it’s hard or anything. Shen Wei has just never felt the need to learn. He lives close enough to the university and to the SID or anywhere else he needs to go. And if he needs to go anywhere further, Yunlan can drive him, or Shen Wei can teleport.

Snowflakes drift lazily across the hazy white sky, falling with an enviable leisure. Shen Wei’s breath forms fog, but he doesn’t feel cold. He was waiting inside the ministry for Yunlan’s meeting to finish, but the snow had been far more interesting than the empty hallway.

There’s a wet coughing sound that startles Yunlan. It’s followed by a loud strike of thunder and a flash of lightning that has Yunlan wondering if he imagined it.

As the keeper of the lighthouse, Yunlan’s familiar with storms. He’s not sure what drew him to come out here at this time with the winds whipping his thin jacket around and the tides thrashing against the seabed.
