Shen Wei tried to focus on his textbook. Unfortunately, the soft pings of incoming text messages were a terrible, terrible distraction.
And also more welcome than his parents would have liked.

Kanlungan - [noun] shelter; cradle

Shen Wei’s gaze flickers helplessly back to Zhao Yunlan. He’s wearing ripped jeans and a faded green t-shirt with some outlandish foreign slogan on it. As he sees Shen Wei looking at him he smirks and stretches his legs into a cat-like sprawl. In the mellow sunlight his skin seems to glow.

Yunlan shakes his head. “Take me home with you,” he tells Shen Wei, voice now a low, husky whisper.

Shen Wei doesn’t let it affect him — Yunlan has had a lot to drink tonight and is clearly out to make some bad decisions; Shen Wei knows better than to read anything into Yunlan’s words.

“I’ll be good for you,” Yunlan tells Shen Wei. “I promise I will.”

Shen Wei stared Yunlan straight in the eyes with probably more intensity than necessary. “Zhao Yunlan,” he began, “You may have drunk something…” Shen Wei searched for words, “…Unnecessary.”
“Story of my life,” muttered Yunlan around the lollipop.

Prompt: "Shen Wei is a minor household god who has looked over the heirs of the House of Zhao since they bound him to their line. But the birth of the first daughter in the family has the elders in a stir, save for the girl’s favourite Uncle Xiao Lan. The one who looks remarkably like the first Zhao who held Shen Wei’s heart in his hands."
