For the record, I have only ever written self-indulgent, wish-fulfilling fan fiction. It's surprisingly therapeutic.

"Hi! Hei Lao Ge!" Zhao Yunlan greets him, his voice light and happy, grinning to his ears. The rest of the SID team bows at him respectfully.

"Zhao-xiong." Shen Wei nods at him slightly, taking a brief second to adjust himself from the overwhelming feeling inside his chest. Last night, in his apartment, there were revelations happened. One about his identity, one about their feelings for each other.

Zhao Yunlan jolts out of sleep in the predawn light to reassure his city that everything's alright. Being awake before Shen Wei, and thus able to kiss him awake, is a bonus he's eager to enjoy.

Ed planned to go Resembool, but since when do things go according to plan?

"Where are we?" Zhao Yunlan asks, looking around. It looks a whole lot like some random forest and that doesn't really tell him very much. He looks down at himself. He's in his own clothes, all non-bloody and not torn, which is handy. He pokes at his own chest. He feels solid enough.

Only then does he look over at Shen Wei, which really should have been his first priority, he thinks, but somehow he never doubted that Shen Wei would be right there next to him when he looked. Like so much of what's going on, that's kind of weird.

Zhao Yunlan convinces Shen Wei that a family vacation before the babies are born is a good idea.

"Ah, Hei Lao Ge, I have always thought that you are a business-only kind of person."

Shen Wei opens his eyes, waken by the calling flicking in his veins, wrapping around his fingers.

Shen Wei has lost everything he held dear: his parents, his brother, and now their treasured pearls. A frantic search leads him to a new discovery which might just bring him out of the eternal darkness his life has become and to a place of self-acceptance and love.

Da Qing isn't wrong. There is something very strange about Shen Wei. In particular, why has he suddenly offered to join their next marine research expedition, after turning down Zhao Yunlan's invitations for weeks?

'What was the cost?' Zhao Yunlan asked. 'What did you lose in order to heal me?'
'I did not lose anything,' Shen Wei raised his eyes, beseeching, and met Zhao Yunlan’s stern frown. He shook his head and dropped his gaze again. 'It is not what I lost. It is…what I took in.'

A new goldfish appears in Shen Wei's office aquarium. It's far more fond of him than the other fish are.

Zhao Yunlan stirs slightly in his sleep, throwing his arm to his side, and feels- nothing.

"Shen Wei...?" He mumbles sleepily and eventually opens his eyes. The light shines dimly through the curtain, it is still early in the morning. Zhao Yunlan whines as he sits up on his bed. Where is his husband?
