He could smell the city below, immersed in night, as if all the urban hubbub were a single entity. An entity who slept and woke up unaware of its own inner world, ignorant of the outside world. His senses were sharpening, like a sword forged slowly, immersed in fire and water and polished on stone and then again, until the blade was perfect.
