Zhao Yunlan just loves waking up in the mornings so much since Shen Wei came into his life. Because someone cares now.

Every night, someone would sneak into his apartment, going around for a while before sitting on Zhao Yunlan's bed. A hand gently sets on Zhao Yunlan's face, caressing his skin slowly, treasuring every moment of it.

Zhao Yunlan always pretends to be asleep, pressing his eyes close. The touch is nice, always so nice. Zhao Yunlan finds himself relaxing into that touch every night onwards, even though yes, it is quite creepy. 

Something hisses behind him and Zhao Yunlan jumps, whipping around. "Who's there?" he demands. There's nothing there. It was probably just the wind in the trees or something.

"What?" Chief Zhao opens the door slightly, only poking his head out to talk to him, his voice hoarse and dry.

Guo Changcheng blinks at him, startled. There is something strange about the way Chief Zhao looks. He is panting slightly, his cheeks blushed, looking out of breath, and- why are his lips so swollen?

It’s fine. The loss of energy is fine, the itching somewhere in the back of Zhao Yunlan’s chest is expected, but never welcome.

Waking up to an empty bed, neither. The ringing silence, stretched like a poorly-tuned string, always deafens the ears.

Zhao Yunlan yawns, using his hand to cover his mouth to not be rude. But Shen Wei's eyes behind the mask are already staring at him attentively.

"Sorry, sorry, Hei Lao Ge, I did not sleep well last night." Zhao Yunlan rubs his eyes a little then grins at him.

"Yeah, probably too busy fantasizing about your crush last night to even sleep."Lin Jing mumbles mockingly under his breath, head still lowering down to work on the computer.

Shen Wei is eight years old when he first sees Zhao Yunlan.

“Who is that?” he asks, staring at the screen. Ye Zun doesn’t look away from the television, following the action with a focus he rarely puts into anything else.

“He’s the new striker for Dragon City FC,” his brother replies. “Zhao Yunlan.”

Shen Wei shuffles forward until he’s kneeling on the floor with his brother. From their tiny television, a man in a white and red kit breaks away with the ball at his feet. The crowds rise with a deafening roar as number eight races down the field. An auspicious number, Shen Wei thinks, heart pounding.
