The first thing Zhao Yunlan learns when he's appointed as the new chief of the SID is that sometimes, the police needs to make use of unusual methods to solve a case.
This particular method goes by the name of Luo Fusheng and is Longcheng's most infamous informant.

Ye Zun can't understand Shen Wei's relationship with that annoying, crude human. They certainly don't have his blessing. Zhao Yunlan could never be good enough for his brother.

Zhao Yunlan is happy with his life. He has a stable job in a large firm, where he works as a consultant on financial matters. He has a nice little flat in the middle of the city, right above a bakery, where each morning he is woken by the smell of freshly baked bread. And, of course, he has a wonderful little dog because dogs are a man’s best friend, aren’t they?

AU: Zhao Yunlan's trip to the past lasts a month rather than a few days, and the rebels have only managed to steal 3 of the 4 sacred artifacts. Shen Wei is baffled and fascinated by this strange new ally.

This fic will eventually be a collection of one-shots in the same AU canon.

By the time the newbie arrived back from his run-in with the Dixing attacker at the hospital and tottered into the SID, his teeth were chattering. Da Qing jumped off the table, shifting into human form as he did. Lao-Zhao and Zhu Hong were still with Li Qian, and lao-Zhao had texted, saying to keep an eye on the kid and take him through the paperwork, but xiao-Guo looked like he was in shock. What was Da Qing supposed to do? He was not going to wash the kid’s ears to calm him down!

Zhao Yunlan makes it out of Dixing alive. The price he pays is higher than he knows how to cope with. Life goes on, though, and gets even more confusing when Shen Wei suddenly returns—without his powers. Working through what's happened between them would be difficult enough, but before long, Zhao Yunlan has to realize there's much more to being Haixing's Guardian than he ever knew.
