Shen Wei regrets none of it. Not meeting Kunlun, not bringing him into the reincarnation cycle at the cost of his own life, not even holding Zhao Yunlan when he should’ve stayed away. Even though he doesn’t regret a single moment, his decisions will still have great consequences. And he only has a single night to figure out how to keep Zhao Yunlan by his side or lose him forever.

Kunlun laughs into the ghost king’s hair, breathing in the clean smell of his musk and sweat. “All right,” he says. “But you can’t back out once we start, understand?”

“I want it all,” says Wei fiercely.

“Humans are so stupid,” Da Qing huffs, tail lashing in the air.

“I am not human,” Shen Wei tells him, voice quiet, tight.

It makes Da Qing settle and still, looking at him carefully. Like he’s just remembered that Hei Pao Shi is in his kitchen, bribing him with bites of salmon and generating enough dark energy to fuel a city for a year if anyone could figure out how to harness it.

“Then you know better than to listen to her.”

“I know enough to let it be,” Shen Wei agrees mildly.

It's been a long time since Shen Wei was this small. He flutters his wings and flies a few loops in the air and grins. He's almost forgotten how much he likes flying. It doesn't take him long to adjust to his small form. It's slightly harder to figure out how to navigate the mortal realm like this. It's not designed for anyone this small.

Because the only solution after finding Kunlun again is clearly to spy on him.

The Dixing Diner is open 24 hours, to all manner of people, as long as they can find the place.
