An accident in Dixing leaves Zhao Yunlan able to (temporarily) see dark and light energy.

Zhao Yunlan is a rookie cop, SID's newest and youngest agent. He also has a less-than-professional interest in Hei Pao Shi. Though he's almost certain that the feeling is mutual, given their respective ranks it's not really something he can entertain outside fantasies. Or so he tells himself.

And then SID is sent to investigate a case of tourists gone missing in an ancient temple, and he gets to find out for himself how deeply Hei Pao Shi's feelings run.

The Envoy is seriously injured by the explosion of Lin Yusen’s remains. Chu Shuzhi must protect him while he recovers -- and make sure no one finds out.

“Please.” Groaned Zhao Yunlan dramatically as he draped himself inelegantly in his chair, “Tell me that we’re nearly done otherwise I might just die on the spot. On the spot, Shen Wei.”, and while he knew he was being overly dramatic (so much so) he couldn’t quite stop himself from throwing himself full force into it.

They had been trapped in this meeting room for – his eyes flicked to the clock – five hours now. It really was all too much.

What he had said was, "It really does heighten all your other senses, losing your sight."

In any case, Shen Wei said yes, so maybe Zhao Yunlan can blame this all on him. Shen Wei really needs to stop indulging him.

When a force field appears in the city and Zhao Yunlan is the only one able to walk through it, he ends up righting a wrong that threw balance into chaos.

This life is what I'm returning to you, Shen Wei had said, but Zhao Yunlan doesn't know what that means; doesn't know why Shen Wei would so casually cripple himself just so that Zhao Yunlan could see.

Zhao Yunlan opened the door to his apartment that he, Shen Wei, and Da Qing lived in, and slid right on in.

It was nice to be home even if it really was only him and the cat. With a careless toss, he flung the keys onto a countertop. “Damn Cat, where you at?” Zhao Yunlan called out, “Shen Wei’s stuck late at the university so I thought we could go get some food.”

Da Qing could be found standing near one of the corners of the living room. His tail was extremely poofed and a line of fur ran in a spiked ridge along his back, which anyone who had a cat just knew it conveyed some sort of high emotional state. “Lao Zhao there’s something wrong with the shadows.”

Guo Changcheng isn't entirely sure of what he thinks he sees in Chu Shuzhi's eyes. But he's hoping to find out.

If Yunlan is going to learn how to make actual food that requires more effort than just boiling water and putting hot water into stuff, he’s going to have to take all the notes.

“Right,” he says to himself. “How hard can it be?”

He watches all twenty-two minutes and fourteen seconds of Chef Shen's video without fast-forwarding. When it comes to an end, he clicks on the replay button.

He ends up taking zero notes, and the only thing he manages to learn from the whole exercise is that Chef Shen -Shen Wei- is really fucking beautiful when he smiles.
