In Episode 8, after Shen Wei finds Zhao Yunlan sick on the street, he takes him home to take care of him. This is what would have happened if Da Qing did not interrupt, and if Shen Wei did not have lessons. At this point in the series, Zhao Yunlan is unaware of Shen Wei's real identity.

"There are only two things I am looking for." Zhao Yunlan shifted on to his side interested in knowing what could a creature as perfect as Shen Wei would ever want. But there was bitter taste lingering in the back of his mouth.

"My first love-" Zhao Yunlan leaned forward to peck his lips but the smile slipped from his face when he heard the rest of the sentence, "-and my death."

Wei Wuxian makes a deal with the Ten Yan Kings of Difu for the lives of Jin Zixuan and Jiang Yanli to be restored - full, entire and immediately - and in exchange he will give up his souls and be subject to whatever punishment soulless entities usually are. Shen Wei, the Chief of SID, didn't know what he was expecting when he finally met the infamous Dixing God, Kunlun, but it certainly wasn't flirting.

"Don't you think it's interesting?" asked Da Qing. "That the Dixing fortuneteller said that Yunlan was the soulmate of the Black Cloaked Envoy?"

"It's preposterous!" yelled Zhao Xinci. "I will ensure that they never meet, so don't speak such nonsense around me again!"
