“Ah,” Shen Wei deadpans. “No pressure, then.”

The Chief barks out a laugh. It’s only for a moment but the air seems to glisten with his delight. “No pressure,” he repeats, waving Shen Wei towards the passenger seat.

Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan meet again in another life.

“Forgive me if this question is impertinent, but your accent is one that I’ve not heard for a great many years. Are you perhaps from a… deeply southern region?”

With a barely there smile, the student said, “Your discretion is appreciated. Yes, I was sent from the… south to perform some duties to help maintain the peace. I am called Shen Wei.”

Even the most beautiful, graceful, and poised person on the fucking planet (Zhao Yunlan's highly scientific description of Shen Wei) can have a slight... mishap. Thankfully, Zhao Yunlan is here to offer totally unneeded support.

(Plot? Here? Hell, no, this is just an excuse for Zhao Yunlan to put his jacket around a soaking-wet Shen Wei and display copious amounts of PDA.)

The sound of pounding footsteps through his doorway is what prompts Shen Wei’s attention away from the journal he was reading. He gets up with a frown, one hand still holding the journal, to reprimand the student running through the Professor's offices—when the door to his office flies open.

The journal drops to the floor.

For a moment, Shen Wei feels light-headed and the world seems to swim before him. Because there, standing in his doorway, panting and wild-eyed and here—is Kunlun.

Or, Shen Wei reunites with a Kunlun who remembers him.

Zhao Yunlan eats some Yashou candy. Their effect on humans is... unusual.

Shen Wei, as usual, bears the brunt, aka the agony of having to turn down the man he's been in love with for literal millennia because Zhao Yunlan's clearly not in his right mind.

In just a little more than four decades of life, Qiao Yicheng can’t really recall ever having felt young. When he was a child, there wasn’t any time for that, not when he had the whole family depending on him. And by the time he’d grown up, there wasn’t really any point anymore – he had a job, he’d had a wife, for a time, and then he’d sort of started a family of his own. (And, yes, Wu Xiaowen isn’t actually his kid, and Mo Sanbi is probably one of the furthest things from a wife that a person can be, but they are an addition to his family, two people who are impossibly precious to him.)

Qiao Yicheng is the kind of person who feels most comfortable suffering in silence. But it’s just the strangest feeling when someone else wants to suffer with him.

Shen Wei doesn't like to celebrate his birthday which is why he is in his office. Zhao Yun Lan wants to change Shen Wei's mind.

Shen Wei hates the highly-favoured General of the North. He’s reckless, unorthodox and unruly, he disregards almost everything Shen Wei knows about conducting battles, and yet he returns triumphant every single time, his signature cocky smile firmly on his face. Shen Wei hates that he is so competent, hates that he is so unlike Kunlun, his predecessor. He hates how much he yearns for his return every time Zhao Yunlan goes away.
