"Quiet," his Lordship commands, and the room falls silent. His finger settles under Chu Shuzhi's chin to tilt his head up, his gaze heavy on Chu Shuzhi, his eyes dark as a storm underneath the mask. "This one isn't mine to discipline anymore," he says coldly, causing a victorious murmur among the crowd.

Chu Shuzhi doesn't flinch. He doesn't move at all. He has to remind himself to breathe.

There's only a fraction of a second to decide.

Shen Wei, in between falling from the roof as Professor Shen and reappearing as the Black-Cloaked Envoy.

It is getting closer to him.

Dark energy is not entirely dark. There is a spark of blue and glimmering white in the blast.

Zhao Yunlan's body entirely freezes. He needs to move out of the way but his body is not responding to his mind.

The blast is getting closer to him, to the point that even if he moved, it would still hit him badly. Zhao Yunlan closes his eyes, waiting for it to come. That would hurt so much.

As it was during their previous meetings, the man didn’t look surprised. He was wearing black robes that reminded Shen Wei a bit of his own, though the stranger’s were of slightly lower quality. Hell probably didn’t care much about the prices of the materials, especially when dressing their failed experiments.
“I still don’t know who you are,” the man said out of the blue, addressing Shen Wei directly for the first time.
“Most people ask me what am I.”

“What are you holding?” A growling sound comes from the table just then. Whatever the object is, it is enough to distract Da Qing from the food and for him to stalk over to the edge of the table, body even rounder than usual with his fur bristling.

“Oh, this?” Zhao Yunlan turns to smirk at the cat. He hefts the black box with colourful dials he is lugging under one arm, the box bouncing slightly in a concerning way before he settles it in front of the projecter screen with a thump. “I’m getting ready for our yearly karaoke battle, of course!”

Getting his feet under himself doesn’t prove too difficult, despite the minor protest in his knee. He walks gingerly around the overgrown garden wall to stare down the alleyway. Someone—a woman, he decides the longer he stares—is fighting to get cartons out of an upended trash can. His heart lurches as he takes in the jerky movements and a frustrated sigh makes its way towards him.

This time, he was not in chains. This time, he offered himself up freely, without constraint, for his Lord to do as he would with him.

He remembers the feeling of gentle fingers combing through his hair, the great Kunlun so clearly at a loss when it came to braids that his touches turned tentative again.

Shen Wei thought they had moved past that already.
