The collision of Shen Wei’s adopted home and his native land is exacerbated by strengthening echoes of the past.  Haixing wants him. Dixing wants his brother. Everyone wants the secrets of the spaceship, and its power will go to whoever can control it.

Shen Wei just wants peace: for his family and for all people.  If he has to invoke the legendary leaders of the Alliance to get it, he will.

Shen Wei finds sleep elusive at the best of times. On a night like this, it’s no surprise that it slips through his fingers like the wind.

There was almost a meditative quality to it, each knot settling into place against Shen Wei’s skin, Ye Zun carefully testing and adjusting them as he went. After each knot he brushed a kiss against the bare skin above it. An act of reverence, Zhao Yunlan thought at first, but no, it was not that, or not merely that. He gradually came to realize that each knot, each kiss, was an apology.

It was late when Zhao Yunlan arrived at the university, still furious at how the case had turned out. But now the team were safely back at the SID, and he was here, instinctively, idiotically, looking for answers from the only person he knew to ask.

(A late-night conversation set during episode 4, directly after the conclusion of the face-stealer case.)

Zhao Yunlan wakes up because something's amiss. The flat is too quiet. There's no movement, no one's breath but his own. Shen Wei has disappeared on him again.

Zhu Jiu would do anything for the Boss. Poring through boring ancient documents included.

The Hallows draw in Ye Zun, consume his body and his power and his screams.

Shen Wei cannot fail his little brother again. “Whatever you do,” Kunlun had said, “don’t regret it.”

Shen Wei takes one final look at the sunlit world around him, and dives into the whirlpool that stole his brother.

“Eh, Lao Zhao, you’re going back there? I thought you didn’t—” Da Qing had started, words rolling off his mouth as soon as he had stepped next to Zhao Yunlan going over the case files on the main table and taken a look at the photographs. His sentence had only gotten cut off by the warning of Zhao Yunlan’s hand coming up at lightning speed to smack him on the head.

“You’ve been to this place before?” Shen Wei asked, his voice carefully level.

Before Da Qing could say anything else and get him into more trouble, Zhao Yunlan said, “I went there a couple of times when I was in university.” He tried to smile reassuringly and waved a hand in front of his face in a dismissing gesture. “Y’know, young adult finally allowed to have kinky sex and all that.”

Zhu Hong is about to join the SID, but before she goes, she has a conversation with Ya Qing.

Once upon a time, a family found each other in different times and loved each other through all of them. Believing in each other made them believe in themselves, and believing in themselves saved the world.

Now they're determined to enjoy it.

Zhao Yunlan wakes up feeling like he'd been burned to ashes. It's hot, and nauseating. Not even mentioning the terrible headache.

But he got no time to worry about any of that. Because he has more important things to do. Way more important. Like punching the hell out of the biggest idiot he'd ever known that wears glasses and sleeve garters.

And maybe, possibly, changes everything. For a better outcome.
