Da Qing was trying to murder him. That was the only possible explanation for this. He got out of his warm bed to retrieve his phone, only to retreat right back into its warm embrace. He was very much awake now and staring at all the pictures that had been posted. Da Qing was clearly sleeping on the floor of his apartment with the kittens cuddled up on his chest and a little blanket overtop of them. Empress Mao appeared in other pictures across Da Qing's feet, but the sleeping kittens combined with Da Qing sleeping? Ye Zun's heart wasn't meant to take this at 8 AM.

He had to focus hard to actually read the caption and snorted when he finally managed. "Post Feeding Nap Fatalities: 7." Clearly it was the Roommate posting again, since Da Qing was passed out under the kittens and Empress Mao. First, he liked the picture and then he also shared it on his Weibo timeline.

With everything that had been happening lately, moments like this didn’t happen often. When they had time to just be with each other, only the two of them. Not to mention when they had time for other, more physical things.

When Ye Zun learned that Shen Wei had to marry a Haixing bride to fulfill obscure terms of the Dixing-Haixing peace treaty, he didn’t expect to find himself searching for a loophole to let his brother pursue Zhao Yunlan instead. Yet that was exactly what he was doing, but only because it provided a distraction from his boring life of confinement in the Heaven Pillar.

Ye Zun definitely wasn't out to save Shen Wei. Or Dixing. Or himself.

Shen Wei was perfectly content with his life and the roles of a doting father and a dedicated professor. That was... until a certain devilishly handsome detective swooped in to make him that there was a lot he was missing on.

When Zhao Yunlan comes home tense and unhappy after an unexpected meeting with his father, Shen Wei knows just what his husband needs.

“Ge.. I'm alive..? You're alive..” his voice now barely a whisper, but he doesn't care. He just wants answers. Answers that make him believe that this is true. That he's alive, his Gege is alive. The hand that lay on his waist is now rubbing soothing circles and finally the older male nods. Ye Zun closes his eyes blurring with tears and smiles.

Zhao Yunlan has been punched before.

Punched, kicked, had his hair pulled. He’s been stabbed (thanks, Ding Dun!) and kneed in the groin. He’s even had his ribs broken by a tiny, fierce woman who absolutely did not believe she deserved to be incarcerated for almost killing her ex-boyfriend.

What he’s not had the pleasure of experiencing, until this moment, is a frying pan to the face.

There are some things that are more important even than Ye Zun's own life.
