“Am I interrupting?” Qingeng replies, feigning concern. In the back of his mind, he wonders what his men would think if they heard him so soft-spoken and polite. They would probably flee in fear, expecting something terrible to happen.
The detective gives him an annoyed smile and gestures him inside.

ZYLBY48 Week: Day 1

Song Qingyuan thinks he’s got Qiao Yicheng’s type down – ambitious, energetic women with deceptively-doe like eyes who aren’t good for him.

But then there’s Mo Sanmei, and Song Qingyuan has to pinch himself to make sure he hasn’t started hallucinating. Song Qingyuan knows his best friend just has the worst luck. Sometimes problems are heaped upon him due to circumstances out of his control, and sometimes he digs himself into holes with no way out. Either way, it's a foregone conclusion that Qiao Yicheng is constantly silently suffering through some sort of crisis at any given moment.

And even so, somehow, Song Qingyuan had erroneously assumed that Qiao Yicheng would be spared the dubious effects of the most famous crisis of them all: the midlife crisis.

ZYLBY48Week Day One: Teacher

Luo Fei could not, with perfect accuracy, say he was dating Xiao Lu’s English teacher. They just met up for tea, occasionally. Talked about their respective jobs, exchanged opinions about books, discussed the news. Friends did that. Even mere colleagues did that. Except…

They both move from set to set, and their paths briefly cross if they're lucky, and rarely, so rarely, they get to inhabit the same space for a couple of precious days, and learn each other anew.

“If I could bring you as much joy as you gave me from the barest touch of your lips, I would be satisfied.”

"What're you doing?" A familiar, sleep-slurred voice asked.

A second later, Da Qing found himself looking at the too-close face of a human instead of his chosen prey. He heard the whisper of scurrying feet, and he knew his quarry had fled.

Da Qing growled as he straightened up, flicking his tail from side to side. "What did you do that for?"

Or, there's a reason why Zhao Yunlan has the sleep habits of a cat.

Shen Wei picks his silk boxers off Zhao Yunlan’s bedroom floor. They’re stained to the point of being unwearable, a victim of last night’s activities.

The top-secret, retrospectively classified truth is that for three or four months before Xiao Guo starts at the SID, Da Qing has a serious lollipop obsession.

“Zhao Yunlan, if anyone is to trick the Deacon, it should be me.” That was self-evident. The plan they’d concocted was sound, and they both agreed it would be too risky to send An Bai himself in as bait. So far, so good. But Zhao Yunlan couldn’t be the one to take An Bai’s place.
