Normally, on a SID-sanctioned outing that required hours of travel, there were more bags to be had, but for today’s trip there were only two. Those two bags were already in the trunk of the car and Guo Changcheng couldn’t help but think they looked a little lonely. He reached over and rearranged them for the third time until they sat next to each other, versus apart. Seeing them touching eased something within him and Guo Changcheng smiled. “There we go. That’s better.”

He was about to close the trunk when Da Qing sauntered on over. “I spoke with the Flower Tribe, they have a room all prepared for when you two arrive.” The Cat said smugly, a particular look giving his eyes a shiny brightness that Guo Changcheng knew meant some sort of mischief was in play.

But Guo Changcheng couldn’t quite say what exactly that mischief was. The Deputy Chief’s words seemed innocent enough, after all, the trip was two days, so he and Chu-ge would need rooms for the night. He turned the puzzle (briefly) over in his head, but when he still couldn’t see the trap, Guo Changcheng simply answered. “Thank you, Deputy Chief! I’m sure they’ll be perfect.”

Shen Wei stuck his hand out, and the little sprout scrambled up on it. From his palm, though, it seemed unsatisfied, trying to crawl or scramble closer, or—

"I think it wants you," Shen Wei said, smiling gently. He held his hand out to Zhao Yunlan.

Zhao Yunlan held up his hand slowly, and the sprout scrambled over, shuddering a little and then seeming to settle.

Zhao Yunlan needed to know how Shen Wei had ended up with an official SID file in his flat. Needed to know where his allegiance lay, and if he could be trusted. But he wasn’t going through his father to find out. He wouldn’t do that to his worst enemy, and Shen Wei was—a long way from being an enemy.

At least, Zhao Yunlan hoped he was.

Jiajia has never regretted signing up to take one of Professor Shen's courses. He never made Jiajia feel stupid for asking questions, he was (usually) timely with his grading, and he clearly cared about the subjects his lectures were about. But being his TA brought on a new perspective: Professor Shen wasn't really that great at caring for himself?

Guo Changcheng worries that his relationship with Chu Shuzhi is getting boring. He makes a plan. Things do not go according to plan.

When he spoke, it was in a teasing tone, but Shen Wei felt he could hear some odd reluctance underneath it. “Shen Wei ah – don’t tell me no-one ever tried to kiss you, with a face like that?”

Shen Wei wanted to go on a date. But this is not what he had in mind. He thought they'd go to the park for a walk or have a picnic as the sun set. Maybe go hiking! This? This never even crossed his mind.

It seemed like a good idea to Zhao Yunlan at the time. Take a job as a life drawing model, observe the students, try to figure out if one of them murdered the previous art professor.

Get paid to sit on a chair, basically. Piece of cake, right?
