Zhao Yunlan walks into the SID office with Shen Wei running his hands through a brand-new hairstyle, and everybody in the office gets the, "Oh yeah, I tapped that," message loud and clear.

Well, almost everyone.

Professor Shen smiled with a perfect ease that was almost infectious enough for Changcheng to take a proper breath. "I'm here for a few minutes," he said, "so if I can help, take your time. Were you discussing something downstairs?"

He nodded, recalling the last several confusing moments, and trying to decide how best to sum them up. "I guess I wasn't sure why everyone thought it was important that Chief Zhao changed his hair? And then Lin Jing-ge said..." After briefly considering what Lin Jing-ge had said, Changcheng shook his head. It couldn't be appropriate to say sex words in front of Professor Shen.

Kneeling was not difficult. Whatever pride he lost, however belittling it felt, it didn’t matter as long as Zhao Yunlan could regain his sight. To go from having Zhao Yunlan’s eyes look at him but not see him to have Zhao Yunlan’s eyes find him and actually seeing him made Shen Wei’s heart flutter. The easy, relieved smile on Zhao Yunlan’s face made his whole body sing.

That moment of joy made it all that much harder to confront Feng Qübing only days later and witness Zhao Yunlan, once again, make the selfless decision.

Wang Zheng was her first girl friend. It sounds sad when she thinks about it, that the first woman she felt true connection with was a dead girl found by her boss and Da Qing in the woods, but that's still a fact. She didn't have true friends before, not like that.

Tucked away in a corner of Florida, there's a tower block that among anything else, isn't that physically beautiful or well built, but the oddly sized apartments are cheap to live in, and the tenants are as expected, so bit different from your average Florida man. Where else would there be a unified group of introverts, the laziest local Pd imaginable, a coffee shop run by a narcissistic owner, and a bunch of weirdos?

Oh yeah, they're all American Chinese too, which means the arguments tend to be in mandarin as well as English. It's mad in the unlucky block, absolutely crackers!

Boya hates his neighbor for being happy, Zhan Yao can't stand his exercise addicted neighbor and his all night training, and Shen Wei has no issue with his fellow resident, unless obliviousness counts as a probable cause for concern. They all drink far too much overpriced coffee, think about revenge too much, yet somewhere along those lines they learn to live with each other.

Vaguely, Zhao Yunlan notes that he is already slightly tipsy and perhaps he doesn't actually need this drink. He's here for surveillance, after all. That's also the main reason he doesn't try to slip the bartender his phone number. Well, that, and the fact that there's something…odd about this bartender.
