An extended epilogue/sequel to Every Door a Death. Will probably make no sense unless you read that one first.

Shen Wei absolutely cannot let himself forget the fact that he's an angel. Because if he forgets, he’ll forget that Zhao Yunlan is a demon.

And he’ll forget that Zhao Yunlan is dangerous.

Shen Wei touches his forehead where Kunlun kissed it. He owes something to the god who treats him so gently. So he closes his eyes and searches out for that familiar flame, determined to repay Kunlun for his kindness, no matter how long it may take him to gather up that shattered soulfire.

Shen Wei bumps into Zhao Yunlan's mother while out running errands.

Wang Zheng covered xiao-Guo’s young, impressionable ears so Lin Jing could answer Zhu Hong. “The chief and Professor Shen are doing each other. I’m saying that with ninety-eight percent confidence.”

Set between eps 14 and 15.

It sounds so—stereotypical. Zhao Yunlan, oh yeah, right. The angry teenager.

What if Zhao Yunlan first met the Black Cloaked Envoy a lot earlier, and in very different circumstances?

Zhao Yunlan gets to be the caretaker for a change.

Zhao Yunlan is going to be having a Very, Very Serious Conversation with future Shen Wei, when he figures out how to get himself back there.

Or: the one in which Zhao Yunlan accidentally marries Shen Wei in the deep and distant past.

Ye Zun wants his 'date night' with just Shen Wei, no Zhao Yunlan needed. Why won't he go away? He isn't needed here at all.

“I kept your jacket,” Shen Wei says in a thoughtful, quiet voice. “The one you lent me.”

It’s the first thing he’s said since they both walked out of that disaster of a wedding, and it’s wholly unexpected.

Zhao Xinci nearly has a heart attack when his five year old son sneaks out of his office while the Black Cloaked Envoy is at the Special Investigation Department. (See, this was why he kept telling his wife not to bring Ah Lan to his work.) The boy attaches himself to the Dixingren's leg and refuses to let go. Oddly enough, other than seeming surprised and uncharacteristically flustered, the Black Cloaked Envoy doesn't really seem to mind at all.

They could devour each other, if their fingers dug just a little deeper.

Zhao Yunlan doesn’t know which way is up, can’t tell night from day, he just knows he needs Shen Wei’s hands on him.

“...You would like to go out,” Shen Wei says, sounding very neutral. “For dinner?”

“Not because I don’t love your cooking,” Zhao Yunlan clarifies. “Because I do! Love your cooking, I mean. It’s just, I thought it might be nice for you to take a night off and relax.”

Shen Wei is smiling when he opens the door.

He’s surprised to find a uniformed female Dragon City police officer accompanied by an older male—civilian if his clothing is anything to go by. Shen Wei inclines his head. “Officer. Sir. How can I help you?”

Zhao Yunlan couldn't understand what Da Qing was saying.

“Is this the family you had planned for yourself, Xiao Wei?” he’d asked, voice little more than a hushed whisper in the dark. “An eccentric soldier with a candy addiction and a cat that tries his best to eat us out of house and home?”
