In this episode, the SID investigates a locked-room disappearance, while Shen Wei moves into the apartment across the hall from Zhao Yunlan. A slightly shorter compilation this time, as they don't have as much interaction in this episode.
Shen Wei's New Apartment
Zhao Yunlan isn't actually in this scene with Shen Wei, but that won't stop Shen Wei from looking at Zhao Yunlan's apartment door and smiling like a shy doofus seeing his crush in front of him.
Shen Wei: Protective Boyfriend
In between moving to his new apartment, Shen Wei doesn't forget to help Zhao Yunlan out in the background.
He chases down Butler Wu, dramatically takes off his glasses, and reveals his identity.
He then promises not to interfere in whatever Lao Wu has going on with the SID, on the single condition that no one touches Zhao Yunlan. This is going to become a pattern with Shen Wei, and it's hilarious to me to think of this from the criminal Dixing elements' POV. For years, it's been the Envoy coldly enforcing crime. Then suddenly he's popping up everywhere "Hey if you touch Zhao Yunlan, I'll kill you."
Zhao Yunlan Calls Shen Wei
Zhao Yunlan calls Shen Wei, both to question him and ask for his advice.
Look at these two smiling and grinning at each other over the phone.
Black-Cloaked Envoy Saves the Day
In a bid to save Butler Wu, Zhao Yunlan takes the Longevity Dial and tries to use it to heal. I really like how he's so moved by these cases/people.
Shen Wei's "Zhao Yunlan is Doing Something Risky with the Hallows" radar goes off, and he makes a grand entrance into the SID.
And here we have another scene dealing with the central theme of sacrifice/worthiness in this show: Shen Wei asks if Zhao Yunlan thinks sacrificing his longevity to save a Dixingren is worth it. And Zhao Yunlan says that Dixingren or Haixingren, they're all people.
Shen Wei looks at Zhao Yunlan, as well as the rest of the SID's reactions, and remarks that attitudes have changed. He then proceeds to heal Butler Wu using his powers, because let's face it, with Zhao Yunlan looking at him like that in the second gif, there's no universe in which he has the heart to say no.
Meet the Neighbors
After the case is resolved, Zhao Yunlan and Da Qing go jogging.
On their way home, they run into Shen Wei.
Shen Wei pretends he's not lying his ass off about the reason why he moved here. Zhao Yunlan is not buying it but also doesn't call him out on it.
This "walking away" shot is fun, showing Shen Wei's little pleased smile at his plan succeeding, and Zhao Yunlan being intrigued. He ends the scene noting that Shen Wei's most recent action is "very interesting."
