The video game case! Featuring Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan awkwardly working together, apologies, and sexy bomb defusals.
Hospital Investigation
Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan arrive at the hospital to investigate the case.
Pulling absolutely no punches, Zhao Yunlan comes out with the courteous, formal you (您) instead of the regular you (你).
Shen Wei: Don't be like this...
They don't lose their synchronization despite arguing as they walk.
Zhao Yunlan re-iterates to Shen Wei again that he would trust anything that Shen Wei says, as long as he says something.
Unfortunately, they're interrupted by something happening to the receptionist.
Shen Wei uses super speed to save her, then hastily covers his tracks by destroying the security camera, fully demonstrating his lack of understanding of how security camera recordings work.
Zhao Yunlan seems amused too, applauding Shen Wei for his "perfect" cover-up.
Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan speculate on what could have motivated the attack, when the receptionist wakes up and starts talking about vengeful ghosts.
Zhao Yunlan is his irreverent self while questioning her. Shen Wei absolutely cannot with his man.
Shen Wei manhandles Zhao Yunlan, part... 3? Conveniently, Zhao Yunlan is wearing an Unruly Boyfriend Harness (name courtesy of @ratbones)
Shen Wei takes over the questioning, and they gain some information on the motivation behind harming the receptionist. With their questions answered, they visit Dr. Cheng.
Dr. Cheng thinks it's a miracle that Zhao Yunlan recovered his eyesight. Zhao Yunlan snarks at Shen Wei about how that could have come about while Shen Wei looks awkward. (Passive aggressive bitchy Zhao Yunlan is so hilarious to me).
The Confrontation
Then, in a turn of events that does nothing to disprove Shen Wei's theory that he can't leave Zhao Yunlan for a second without something going wrong: Zhao Yunlan gets caught up in a video game simulation at the hospital while Shen Wei is teaching at the university.
Shen Wei arrives to destroy the cell phone/video game that was controlling Zu Ma.
A Meaningful Look (TM) is exchanged.
The phone is destroyed, Zu Ma is remorseful, is the case over? Unfortunately not, as Zuma reports that he planted a bomb that can blow up the entire hospital...
Bomb Defusal
Shen Wei finds the bomb, but is stopped in his tracks by Zhao Yunlan. It turns out the bomb is sensitive to motion/imbalance.
I'm not sure if a bomb like this exists or not, but I appreciate it giving us this scene of Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan gently holding hands.
Right on cue, Shen Wei comes up with a dangerous, self-sacrificing plan.
Zhao Yunlan tries to get into Shen Wei's thick skull that he'll be devastated if he loses Shen Wei.
With their lives on the line, Shen Wei apologizes to Zhao Yunlan. And promises that one day, he'll tell Zhao Yunlan the truth.
Zhao Yunlan, world's most patient boyfriend, smiles in response.
I clipped this gif because if you ignore the bomb in Shen Wei's hand, it kind of looks like Zhao Yunlan is proposing.
Right before defusing a bomb is an excellent time to flirt and show off, according to Zhao Yunlan. I'd judge him for it except Shen Wei looks equally into it.
Shen Wei, what are you doing with that smirk?
Zhao Yunlan, what are you doing with your tongue?
I call this series of loving close-ups during the defusal process the "Shen Wei Gaze."
The Aftermath
They successfully defuse the bomb. Unfortunately, with the phone and source of his power destroyed, Zu Ma also dies.
Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan watch at Zu Ma's hospital bed.
Zhao Yunlan nudges Shen Wei and tells him to go comfort Dr. Cheng.
In the only occurrence of this happening through the entire show, Shen Wei shoves Zhao Yunlan in front of him like a human shield.
Going Home
With the video game case wrapped up, Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan head back home.
I love this moment of Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan coming home to Da Qing sprawled out on the coach, like coming home to the family cat.
The Merit Brush case gets more urgent as more people are hurt. I love how they're on the same page here, with Zhao Yunlan's understanding little nod.
After this, the episode ends with the start of a new case in the SID the next day.
Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan have kissed and made out up, and back in flirting form at the SID, where they receive the new case.
